The placement of election signs for municipal, provincial and federal elections within Limerick Township is regulated by the Township’s Sign By-law (By-law No. 2022-10), enacted under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001, and related legislation, which permits municipalities to regulate signs and other advertising devices on lands and along highways.

An “Election Sign” is defined in the by-law as a temporary sign promoting the election of a person or political party seeking public office. Election signs are permitted in accordance with the provisions of the Township’s Sign By-law and must comply with general requirements respecting placement, safety, and maintenance.

• Be placed in a manner that obstructs vehicular or pedestrian visibility
• Be attached to trees, poles, or other structures on municipal property without authorization
• Be located within the Township road allowance unless otherwise permitted
• Be placed in a manner that creates a safety concern or interferes with traffic

IT IS PROHIBITED TO PLACE ELECTION SIGNS ON ANY MUNICIPALLY OWNED (OR LEASED) PROPERTY.

For the 2026 Municipal Election, Election Signs may be placed beginning August 21, 2026 after 2:00pm.

ALL Election Signs must be removed 48 hours after the final vote.

Candidates are encouraged to contact the Clerk’s Office prior to placing any election signs to ensure compliance with the Township’s Sign By-law and applicable requirements.
