Your safety isn’t just important to us. It’s part of everything we do.
At the Limerick Fire Department, we’re committed to working together with you and your community on fire prevention and public safety as well as providing emergency service.
No fire permits are required but you must ensure that:
- the fire is tended by a responsible person until out
- the pile is less than 2 metres in diameter and less than 2 metres high
- the fire is ignited after 7:00 p.m., or later and is extinguished at 7:00 a.m., or earlier
- the fire is at least 2 metres from any flammable materials, and
- the person has adequate tools or water to contain the fire
- No burning in high winds
If you wish to burn grass and leaves you must ensure that:
- the fire is tended by a responsible person until out,
- the area to be burned is less than 1 ha
- The length of flaming edge is less than 30 metres,
- The fire is ignited at 7:00 p.m. or later, and it extinguished at 7:00 a.m., or earlier, and
- The person has adequate tools or water to contain the fire
- No burning in high winds
No permits are required for Incinerators but you must ensure that they are:
- Enclosed devices,
- at least 5 metres from any forest
- at least 2 metres from flammable materials,
- covered by mesh less than 5 millimetres in size, and a responsible person monitors the fire until out.
If however a Restricted Fire Zone is put in place because of high fire hazard, these fires will not be allowed.
These Rules and Regulations apply during the months of April 1st to October 31st of each year.
